Styling Rebecca Minkoff.....

Well now that I got your attention...... lets rewind

Last weekend I attended the Harvard Business School Retail & Luxury Goods annual conference.  It was beyond fabulous and I've never been more inspired! On Saturday night I had the honor of meeting the one and only, head designer of Rebecca Minkoff,  the CEO of Rebecca Minkoff, Uri Minkoff, and the President of the company Elissa Skala-Bromer.  So let me explain what I meant by styling...as Saba Karim of Saba Karim Photography and Smart Media was taking photos of Rebecca, I told her to take off her hair tie and name tag. That counts right?...Well it was the highlight of my night because right after that "styling incident" she introduced her self to me! Rebecca, being the owner of a multi-million dollar company , was still extremely genuine, down to earth and caring when it came to giving advice about business, starting a brand, and working in the cut-throat fashion industry.

Rebecca Minkoff at 18, moved to New York City yearning to become a fashion designer. She said "the only thing I could eat, sleep and breathe was designing". Rebecca had asked her dad for money, and after being rejected looked to her brother, Uri Minkoff for investment and partnership. Uri accepted in a heartbeat, knowing confidently that he could invest every single penny into her creativity.  In 2001 she created an "I love New York" t-shirt. After the shirt released on Jay Leno, and US weekly it became a hit. Rebecca began sewing these shirts in her New York City apartment, while her boyfriend at the time, now husband Gavin, was "watching football, wondering where all the fabric was coming from". In 2005 she took a stab at making handbags and created the famous, "Morning after bag". I am also an owner of this beautifully crafted leather handbag. This hotcake sold millions. With 4 years of consistent growth in accessories under her belt, Rebecca returned to her original love of apparel design and introduced a ready-to wear collection in 2009 and the rest became history. Rebecca, Uri and Elissa created a brand image for Rebecca Minkoff portraying a family feel combined with an edge towards any classic style. Putting studs on simple bags and shoes, or mesh fabric onto t-shirts and playing with different leather pallets, she created an image for herself.  Rebecca Minkoff has won awards for her entrepreneurial success in the fashion industry. The president, Elissa was also such a wonderful business women and meeting her was an honor because the company would not be here today without her. I was honored to meet these three "celebrities"(well they are in my world) that are progressively growing the fashion industry.

#ootd  Harvard Business Conference Day 1

Over dressing is not in my Vocabulary. Sure most guests were wearing pants or turtle necks but I was not going to meet Rebecca Minkoff wearing sweats. For this event I went with the classic white and black color scheme paired with my own pop out accessory, this time being my new Marc by Marc Jacobs red bag. My favorite style is pairing any outfit with a simple cape, long or short I need one to feel confident.  Here I am wearing a Nasty Gal blazer cape (yes, I own every color) Sophia Amoruso, founder and CEO of Nasty Gal is my idol. The dress is a simple silk white a-line dress from Top Shop, another one of my absolute favorite stores.  My beautiful watch ,which is gifted to me, is from Michael Kors, featuring the gold and silver chain collection. Finally the most important aspect to any outfit, the shoes. Shoes can make or break your outfit. These shoes are the fall 2014 limited edition Pearl Oxford shoes by Chanel. This outfit is one to wear at a ball, gala or even a business conference, hopefully?!
